We framed this impressive piece a few years back for a private collector. A little research informed us that the USA only had a 36 star flag for 2 1/2 years (1864-1867.) It was also a tumultuous time in our history as this time period covered parts of the Civil War and post war years. This flag is LARGE! The finished piece measures about 8′ wide by about 5′ high. We hand stitched the tattered flag with hundreds of stitches to the linen-wrapped backing board. We used a 4 1/2″ wide distressed walnut-finished moulding (Made in the USA! of course) and then had to rent a truck to deliver it and hang it, as it did not even fit into our giant Ford Expedition!
